HuaWei New Operating System

Huawei's New Operating System

We all knew it was coming when a ban was placed on its use of, and collaboration with, American hardware and software companies.
Huawei already started working on its new Os earlier this year. However, no one knew that it would come sooner than we expected.

The New OS by Huawei will be called "Harmony" in English and "Hongmeng" in china.
Lots of you will wonder, why did not I say "Chinese"? Because Chinese is not a language. So we have basically two languages in China,
  1. Cantonese
  2. Mandarin
Coming back to the article ➠➠
  • Harmony OS will be open source and will “flexibly deploy” across various devices, including phones and smart TVs
  • HongmengOS — or HarmonyOS, as it’s known in English, is Huawei’s homegrown alternative to Google’s Android mobile operating system.
Huawei said that it could replace Google’s Android in just “one to two days” if access to the world’s most popular mobile platform was blocked by the U.S. In the meantime, Huawei is still on Android.

The Chinese tech giant Huawei has previously stated that the new system would be released this year after Google confirmed it would stop supporting Android updates for Huawei due to US restrictions. With cold tech war tensions ramping up following trade war issues, Huawei needs to be adaptable to the times.
Hongmeng (Harmony) OS was unveiled on August 9th, 2019 at a developers’ conference held in Dongguan in southern China, where Huawei has built a lavish campus.
Huawei’s attempt to develop its own technologies from chips to software to reduce its reliance on U.S. firms amid an intensifying U.S.-China trade war is really impressive with a valid alternative from Android or iOS. It could create a range of technologies for Asia to box out American competition.
Huawei already ranks 2nd in the world in smartphone sales even with considerable pressure and blacklisting attempts by the U.S. It will allow the group to offer a common ecosystem of services and applications across all of its consumer devices.
It’s part of Huawei’s play in the so-called Internet of Things, which refers to devices connected to the internet. Huawei is actually a major player in internet-of-things devices and voice intelligent R&D. Huawei is believed to be very connected to the Chinese Government and act a bit like a state-backed technology firm.

This is much in the way Amazon works with U.S. National intelligence on Cloud projects and works intimately with police on facial recognition footage. The Pentagon will not award a lucrative multi-year cloud-computing contract until newly appointed Defense Secretary Mark Esper completes a series of through reviews of the technology, delaying the decision by some weeks. However, Amazon is considered the favorite over Microsoft.
Hongmeng, which is the name the software will have in China and means, “genesis.” And to be honest the genesis of Chinese technology during this period means China will have a technology dynasty of which Huawei is a major part.

Is Hongmeng an “Android killer”?

It will be open source and used in smartphones and other devices and in a sense by completely different from iOS and Android. Launching a new operating system could influence other China companies to migrate from Android since Hongmeng is based on open-source principles.
Huawei is looking to create a unified operating system that can work across a wide variety of devices including IoT gadgets, smart screen devices like TVs, and eventually smartphones and tablets. Huawei could realistically overtake Google and be an Android killer while becoming the top smartphone global provider.
HarmonyOS will first be used on “smart screen products,” such as televisions, later this year. Over the next three years, the operating system will be used in other devices, including wearable and car head units. Chinese tech is coming, it’s just a matter of time.

It is expected, Huawei's new Operating System could be used by all the mobile phone companies in china.
